The group was formed early in 2013 due to frustration of members who felt that no political party was fully able to represent their views. All the group believe in an open, transparent Democracy, and a society which has equal rights and opportunities for all.
Our group BOLD (Building Our Local Democracy) feel that politicians, both locally and nationally, should make more effort to take notice of the people they represent when making decisions. This does not mean that they ought to just react to populist agendas though, as often the public are not fully informed on issues.
Within the group there is a chance to discuss views on a wide range of political issues, not merely ‘to let off steam’, but to critically debate them and try to reach a broad consensus. ‘Politics is life and life is politics’. Therefore the group are eager to engage with local people because we feel more people should be involved in our democracy without having to belong to a particular political party.
